A Community Where Veterans Reconnect, Regulate, and Find Hope
Sailor's Manifesto is a veteran-focused suicide prevention and mental wellness program built on comradery, peer support, and experiential learning. Through guided community sessions and shared sailing experiences, veterans learn how to ask for help, recognize warning signs, and build resilience together.
About Sailor's Manifesto
About Sailor's Manifesto
Sailor's Manifesto is a veteran-centered suicide prevention and mental health organization focused on community, comradery, and cognitive resilience. The program supports veterans in interrupting patterns of isolation and distress by learning how to recognize warning signs, ask for help, and reconnect with others in meaningful and supportive ways.
The organization delivers a structured four-part program centered on mental health education, peer support, and practical skills for navigating stress and crisis. Through guided group experiences, participants build emotional awareness, strengthen communication, and practice help-seeking behaviors within a trusted, nonjudgmental community.
Sailing is incorporated as an experiential component rather than a clinical intervention. Shared, team-based sailing experiences provide an accessible and neutral environment that encourages trust, presence, and collaboration while reducing common barriers to participation. The water serves as a grounding setting where learning and connection can occur naturally.
Sailor's Manifesto exists to ensure veterans do not face mental health challenges alone and that they leave with practical tools, shared language, and community support they can carry forward beyond the program.
Sailor's Manifesto is a nonprofit organization providing community-based mental health education and suicide prevention support for veterans. The organization offers structured group programming focused on peer connection, emotional regulation, and practical skills for recognizing distress and seeking support.
Programs are delivered through facilitated sessions that emphasize self-awareness, communication, and coping strategies. Sailing experiences are used as an experiential component to reduce barriers to participation, encourage teamwork, and support engagement in a nonclinical setting. All services are provided at no cost to participants.
Sailor's Manifesto does not provide clinical treatment or diagnosis and operates solely for charitable and educational purposes.
How the Program Works
How the Program Works
Sailor's Manifesto is built around a four-part guided program designed to support veterans through connection, awareness, and skill-building. Each module builds on the last, creating a progression that helps participants move from isolation toward clarity, confidence, and support.
Participants are introduced to practical tools that help them understand stress responses, recognize patterns that may signal risk, and practice reaching out before a crisis escalates. The program emphasizes shared experience and peer learning rather than lectures or clinical instruction, fostering trust and mutual support within the group.
Sailing is integrated as a shared experiential component that reinforces presence, teamwork, and connection. Being on the water creates a neutral and grounding environment where veterans can engage without pressure, labels, or stigma. This setting supports reflection, conversation, and a renewed sense of possibility beyond survival.
Following the sailing experience, participants receive a 33-day guided workshop journal designed to extend learning beyond the program. The journal provides structured reflections and practices that encourage continued self-awareness, skill integration, and connection over time. Participants also receive a military-style challenge coin as a symbol of commitment, resilience, and belonging to a shared community of support.

Sue Fisher
Sailor's Manifesto was founded by Army combat veteran Sue Fisher and is governed by a veteran-led board representing the full spectrum of military service and the broader veteran community. The organization is informed by lived experience, professional training in holistic health, neuroplasticity, and nervous system regulation, and a shared commitment to veteran well-being.
The Board of Directors is a cohort of dedicated volunteers drawn from all branches of military service, as well as veteran spouse representation. This inclusive governance structure ensures programs are shaped with practical insight, cultural competence, and accountability, allowing Sailor's Manifesto to respond to veteran needs in a precise, strategic, and community-informed manner.
In addition to her military background, Sue Fisher brings experience in community advocacy, leadership summits, and cross-sector work spanning government, nonprofit, and private organizations. She contributes institutional knowledge in navigating local, state, and national veteran resources and emphasizes collaboration with partner nonprofits to strengthen sustainability and continuity of care. This collective approach ensures veterans are connected not only to programming, but to broader networks of support that extend beyond the organization.
